José Antonio Moreno Rodríguez is an internationally renowned arbitrator, recognized for his rigorous, impartial, and professional approach to resolving international disputes. His outstanding career has established him as a benchmark in both the legal and academic fields, with extensive experience in commercial, sports, and investment arbitration.
Throughout his career, he has been an active member of various international committees and organizations. Among his most notable roles are his participation in arbitration cases before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), his contribution to global and regional codification processes in arbitration law, as well as his service as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague (PCA) and as an active arbitrator under its mechanism, a member of the Arbitral Tribunal of AMCHAM Peru, and of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS-TAS-TAD) in both its general and football lists, and an active arbitrator under the mechanism and former member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Arbitral Tribunal for two terms.
He currently chairs the Consultative Committee on Investment Contracts and UNIDROIT Principles. He also served as President of the Inter-American Legal Committee of the Organization of American States (OAS), as rapporteur for its guidelines on international contracts and investment arbitrations, and as a delegate before UNCITRAL in 2004 during the adoption of the reforms to the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration.
Additionally, José Antonio has been a dedicated academic, teaching at universities in Paraguay and at renowned international institutions such as the University of Heidelberg, Paris 2 University, MIDS in Geneva, the University of Buenos Aires, and The Hague Academy of International Law.
Experience as arbitrator
He has served as arbitrator in cases where he was appointed by one of the parties, as well as serving as the president of the arbitral tribunal and as the sole arbitrator in both domestic and international arbitrations before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB), the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and the Paraguay Arbitration and Mediation Center (CAMP). He has also acted in ad hoc tribunals established under various arbitration rules, including the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the Arbitration Rules of the AmCham Peru Arbitration Center, among others.
José Antonio has experience in disputes involving complex issues across various sectors such as concessions, telecommunications, energy, renewable energy, mining, road construction, licenses, agency, agribusiness, sports law, and more.
